Our first workshop entitled “Why didn’t I get in Medical School this year? Everything you always wanted to know but were to afraid to ask and… what you can do to maximize your chances next year” was held on June 27, 2012 from 5 to 8 at University of Toronto Medical Sciences Building, 1 King’s College Circle, Toronto.
Dr. Lorelei Silverman and Dr. Rosalind Silverman presented a comprehensive overview of the application requirements as well as “The ideal CV software” for personalized resume screening for medical school application and offered guidance in creating individual strategical plans designed to maximize the success rate of candidates. More than 60 students benefited from practical information about how to implement various strategies to improve their resume, interview skills and application and determine the best medical schools to apply based on candidate credentials. Advice how to fully utilize their potential were followed by coaching exercises facilitated by invited thoughts Designer, Coach, Trainer, and Change Facilitator Gabriela Casineanu. They helped the participants to understand the mindset of successful people and how to remove internal barriers that might affect their application and interview. The workshop was followed by ample opportunities to ask questions and share experiences during Q and A discussion as well as by two presentations by two premed school students and members of MHD, Hasan Bilal and Mohamad Yousuf. The workshop was taped by another premed student and MHD member Usman Saed and will be available for viewing. Muffins, refreshments, and giveaways were distributed and a draw for a complete package including a CV overview and 1 hour coaching was won by an undergraduate student, Robin Vigureaux.
